• File Types Although we accept many types of files there are certain types that make our jobs easier and save you time. We prefer 300dpi PDF files or 300pdi TIFF files for optimal quality.
What types of images to use?
• Resolution
Images and designs should be saved to 300 dpi at 100% of the dimensions at which they will print to ensure high quality printing results.
• Color Mode Unless you specifically want a PMS spot color please do not include them in your files. Unless otherwise noted please use CMYK colors on all images and designs. Almost all images begin as RGB but are always printed with CMYK, so do the conversion on your end so there are no surprises.
• File Type
Acceptable image formats: PSD, JPG, TIFF or EPS. Please do not use PNG or GIF as they have very limited colors and your images will suffer in quality by using them.
• Compression
If saving images as a JPG or using JPG compression on your TIFF file please make sure the quality is at least 80% to insure your image looks as good as possible when printed.
Bleeds and margins
• Bleeds If your file has a background image or color that extends to the edge of the sheet or card that is considered a "full bleed." In order to create this effect we must cut 1/8" off all the sides. When designing the card make sure that you account for this and have 1/8" added on all sides (if you are making a 4x6 postcard you will add an 1/8" on the left, right, top and bottom to make the size 4.25" x 6.25")
• Live Area Live area refers to the area that one can place text and graphics without risk of them getting cut off. For example the live area on anything we print is 1/8" in from all the sides (for a 4x6 postcard for instance there would be a live area of 3.75x5.75.)
